IABAVG: Kingdom Hearts Internet Hiatus Round-Up 1

Quick aside before I get into the VIDEOGAMES!!! portion of this entry: I have mostly been good about not being on LiveJournal, and have only checked Dreamwidth once this week. (Which was enough to be aware there is some sort of argument going down about warnings at VividCon? [personal profile] thingswithwings had a pretty good post about it.) However, last night I got sucked into a TVTropes binge, so I am not doing as well as I could be.

Gameplay: 22:50-ish?
Level: 29
Worlds: Agrabah, Traverse Town, 100 Acre Wood, Monstro

I actually expected to spend waaaay more time playing videogames this week than I ended up doing. Instead of playing videogames, I cleaned all the things. (Well, okay, some of the things.)

I ended up having to consult GameFAQs to make sure I got all the treasure in the Cave of Wonders before it apparently explodes and cannot be revisited? This is mostly because fucking everything looks the same. In other news, I hate all swimmy cave places. Can we not have any more swimmy cave places? Those are the anti-fun.

Anyway, on Wednesday, I think I spent about a half-hour dicking around in the Cave of Wonders and not really getting anywhere (although I did discover the save point in one of the swimmy cave places, and also touched some statue dudes), so before I played any on Sunday, I consulted some walkthroughs. Then, even when I knew what I was looking for, it still took me about an hour or so of gameplay to finally get to the point that I'd gotten most of the things I needed to get done done, mostly because I kept falling off things. Boo falling off things.

It was also on Sunday that I realized I was procrastinating because I was scared of the boss fight. Seriously. I don't know why, but Jafar just seemed like he would be a really hard boss fight! Possibly it was the "invincible genie" factor. Factors. My point is that sometimes I have to sit down and have a talk with myself about how if I mess up the boss fight, I can always try over, even if the "NYAH NYAH! YOU DIED!" screen is really unsettling. Also, the boss fights are hardly ever as bad as I think they are going to be. Jafar/Genie Jafar is a GREAT EXAMPLE of this! I was totally expecting him to be SUPER HARD thanks to the aforementioned thing where there are invincible genies involved and also because I had a heck of a time with both the Pot Centipede and the Cave of Wonders, but actually no. Both fights were super easy. I think I had to cure myself once in the first fight because I messed up and Jafar zapped me a couple times, but that was it. I don't think he hit me at all in the second fight. Which is madness.

Also, when I finished the first fight and Jasmine was still there I was all "oh yes! we are actually going to save the princess!" But no. Which, duh, self. If Maleficent didn't collect Jasmine, then her Big Plan Of Great Evil would fall through and the game would not be as exciting. Anyway, my point here is that Riku is a dick, and also CAPTAIN HOOK CAN STAY AWAY FROM MY FRANDS, OKAY >:(

I am pretty sure I am supposed to dick around Agrabah some more, but instead of doing that, I just warped back to Traverse Town. I tried to do the 100 Acre Wood thing first, but it wouldn't go, so I went back to the Accessory Shop and was freaked out by Moogles and unlocked the Item Synthesis Shop. I gather I have to synthesize one of everything before I can unlock new things to synthesize? Perhaps?

Anyway, this is the point where I am going to confess to something: I cheat and use the Gummi Ship to get to Merlin's house because I hate jumping on rocks in the dark (see aforementioned hatred of swimmy cave places!), so instead of wandering through the Second and Third Districts, I just get on the Gummi Ship in the Accessory Shop and disembark at Merlin's house. I don't care how cheap this is because it is still better than SWIMMY CAVE PLACES.

My point here is that when I went back, I got to put the torn page into the book and then I met a Piglet and Piglet and Pooh and Owl all hung out and I helped Pooh get some hunny and THIS WAS THE BEST REWARD EVER for finally bringing myself to engage a boss in battle. I am NOT VERY GOOD at the Helping Pooh Get Hunny mini-game, but that does not matter because it is THERE. And Pooh is not ALONE or HUNGRY anymore. Poohs should never be alone or hungry. :(

And apparently now I have a Bambi! And a Genie, whom I forgot to mention earlier. Also, while I love that the Fairy Godmother hangs out in her little mini-sized carriage, I still keep expecting to walk into Merlin's house and she and Merlin will be snuggling or having cutesy tea together or something. DON'T ASK ME WHY I'VE DECIDED MERLIN/FAIRY GODMOTHER IS TRUFAX. OLD PEOPLE IN LOOOOOVE.

From there, I left back to Agrabah, so I could move on to the next world. I accidentally went through a Warp hole my first try to get to Monstro, and wound up back at the coliseum. Oops. The second time, I actually got to Monstro, but I almost blew up my ship in the process. I am probably going to have to figure out the "add shit to your Gummi ship" business, aren't I? I haven't done this yet, and I found it very confusing when I tred, but it's looking like if I don't do this, I won't be able to actually get to places. However, this is neither here nor there at the moment, since I did make it to Monstro okay. The important thing about Monstro is that he is a SPACE WHALE. At first I thought Monstro was going to be a swimmy cave place world, since the Mouth is a swimmy cave place, but actually, it is more of a Crazy Don't Lick the Hypnotoad world.

I'm still sort of wandering around there because there is apparently a Torn Page hidden in one of the numbered chambers and I CAN'T FIND IT and I wish the weird ghost things would STOP FUCKING DOING CRAZY SHIT so I could NOT FALL OFF LEDGES so I could ACTUALLY EXPLORE THINGS.
