Was looking at Lunatic costume design. Noticed flares. Suddenly desired fanart re-imagining Tiger & Bunny characters in 1978-era American superhero comics. Fire Emblem and Blue Rose would both absolutely wear some sort of Mike-Grell-on-Legion-of-Super-Heroes* monstrosities. It is like the opposite of all those fics where Barnaby isn't a hero and is Edna Mode instead, where everyone wears costumes that are even less practical than what they're already wearing.

Am so rusty in re: writing that not even write-or-die on kamikaze mode is getting me past the "Why is my word document blank? :(" phase. Drastic measures may need to be taken. [edit: And the minute I whine about it in LJ I suddenly vomit up 500 words I don't hate and have a rough outline. This is like whining to guild chat about shitty drop rates to make drops happen.]


* For those of you who give fewer fucks about the Legion than I do, that would be the guy who put Cos in a corset and Saturn Girl in a bikini.

Also I'm having a lot of trouble imagining Sky High in a mask. A LOT. A huge helmet, sure, but specifically covering his face feels wrong. I think maybe a half-face mask, with clearly visible eyes, and also you can see his hair? Although I have a domino mask kink because DAMMIT COMICS, and they're even more sexy on people who seem like they shouldn't be wearing them. So, yeah.

i mean, it's not like you can't give him a helmet; dr. fate has always had one, it's not necessarily un-superheroy. although i really want to somehow keep the epaulets, and that + helmet might be too military?

although i know what you mean... a domino mask on sky high just feels weird.

Yeah, like a half-cowl with a cutout for the hair. IDEK how those are supposed to stay on but w/e. And somehow in a western comics context a helmet feels really distancing, and that's the main thing that feels weird about the mask and all. Sky High does not distance himself!

(of course now my brain is all META TIME and thinking about how he is distanced, he just doesn't seem all that close to any of them, or anyone else, despite being so friendly and caring, and omg I need fic. That I will probably not get. BUT ANYWAY. Meta break over.)

I need to go look at everyone's costumes again, I have such a terrible memory for this stuff. I can remember their civilian outfits! But that's not very helpful. Actually I think Dragon Kid might just wear her out-of-costume jumpsuit, but more streamlined/less like actual fabric, with a couple accents like maybe a belt or cuffs. And a different collar.

Keith basically fell in love with Cleverbot, which I think tells you the quality of human interaction he has on a regular basis. (Tbh, colorswapped Fate's helmet + a coat pretty similar to his current one would, I think, work pretty well. On the other hand, you're right that that sort of costume gives him a bit of a ~mystic distance~ [most of the heroes who wear full helmets tend to be distant in a ... more than social way.] and I think it doesn't fit super well with him being... well. sort of a dim puppy dog inside.)

Dragon Kid's outfit is sorta... hm. I guess it depends how far into the sort of 70s kung fu/martial arts movie aesthetic you want to get/what direction you want to take that, I think.

That is not an aesthetic I'm familiar with, like...at all? So I have no idea really.

OH KEITH. I am full of love and hugs for you. He shouldn't be lonely, it's too sad :(

tbh it's an aethetic i'm only familiar with in the sense of more modern movies evoking it, really, so i'm not on the sturdiest footing either. i do feel like that's sort of how her costume would have been inspired/designed at the time though. hm.

A lot of billowing cloth and sashes and swords? Actually that's how they'd design Ivan if he was an actual Japanese character, oh seventies comics.

Yeah, that would absolutely be ivan. he would have the most ridiculous costume. [Now I'm like lol ivan is danny rand in spirit, if not in powers/abiities]

actually, basing dragon kids off her current civilian outfit wouldn't be too bad, since that does give that aesthetic, being the bruce lee jumpsuit. hm.

If he were Japanese they would make him be a ~samurai hero.~ I'm pretty sure there was a Superfriend like that. (So uh, we can just ignore that particular reality for Kotetsu, obviously.) But yeah as it is...oh Ivan. He totally is Danny Rand. Does this mean Antonio/Ivan bromance? Because that's kind of weirding me out, tbh.

I just feel like there were a fair amount of jumpsuited heroes back then? It is an aesthetic I recall encountering. Usually more disco-type jumpsuits but same difference.
