Comics! Yeah!

I was going to type this up last night, but I decided to re-watch the first four episodes of The X-Files instead. I'm serious about getting through the whole series this time, guys. I've got two seasons on DVD even! :D?

Anyway, onto comics!

Green Lantern Corps #49
I was sort of looking forward to a John Stewart adventure, and instead I seem to have gotten a "John is imperiled, and next issue they will probably have to fight him" Kyle, Soranik & Ganthet adventure. If John gets irrevocably Alpha-Lanterned, I will be very sad. I will also be very sad if Boodikka dies.

Also, seriously, do the people writing comics never get along with their exes or something? Do none of them have friends of the opposite gender? Because I am getting so tired of Jade being back from the dead and now it's all about how she and Kyle dated once and how that is a threat to Kyle/Sora and, like, OH MY GOD, YOU GUYS, THEY MOVED ON. LET THEM BE FRIENDS/FRIENDLY ACQUAINTANCES OR SOMETHING. Also, all women: jealous harpies who won't let you have lady friends, amirite?

Legion of Super-Heroes #2
So, after I whined about the whitest Legion ever, they at least put Tyroc and Jacques in an issue (not together, of course). I'll be interested to see how the revamped Tyroc goes. I've considered him a salvageable character, but I'm not sure Levitz and I are on the same wavelength. I have no real opinion on Jacques because I find the way writers write out his accent super annoying, but I'm glad he was there. Now, if Danielle and Jazmin and Jenni could show up and be in the same issues as Tyroc and Jacques (and Dawnstar? I've never been clear on if she's actually NDN or an alien who is meant to ~evoke~ NDN-ness?), we'd be getting somewhere. The Legion would still be way out of proportion White, but I'd at least think an effort was being made.

I've never really gone into depth on why I find Space Racism stories sort of tedious, but I think in Legion it really is that the cast of characters is so informed by subtle societal racism that it's difficult to read any Space Racism stories as anything more than lip service. With the exception of the paranoia Durlans and Titanians stir up in characters, it is mostly about Space Racists As Clearly Evil Bogeymen, and not using the metaphor of Space Racism to call our attention to the ways in which people are unintentionally racist, or the ways in which a culture is racist, which are things that are difficult to explain to people about Actual Racism.

Anyway, I do like that Saturn Queen showed up! And she has a cute outfit! I also like that Tinya and Jo's true love is still over-coming mind control. Like, that is just a running gag to me at this point and I love that shit. It has stopped being annoying and started being great.

Also, I really hope that Earth-Man at some point dies/loses his ring and it falls into the hands of someone awesome. Sadly, I doubt this is going to be the case. (I would be for an Emerald Emperor, though.)

Power Girl #13
New creative team! Amanda Conner, I pine for you. :(

Anyway, this was made of less pure joy than it used to be, and I'm noticing that suddenly Karen works with a lot more dudes than she did under the last creative team, but overall, it's good enough that I'm going to stay with it.

I like the new art well enough, and I found it still rather charming, and Power Girl still, you know, Peej. So I'm going to tentatively remain on the title. It could go horribly awry, but I'm hoping it won't!

Justice League: Generation Lost #4
This is not as great as #3 was, but it was still pretty good. I like the new Rocket Red, because he is ridiculous. I also like that Max is trying to get the band back together. Awww, crazy Max. :(

I am also really confused by what's going on with Max's powers, and why they sometimes work and sometimes don't. I am sure they are being all wacky for the same reason Aquaman's are being all wacky lately. (And hey, in both cases, it's a mind control/telepathy type power being used! Hmmmm.)

WE SHALL SEE.
