Hello, the internet, let's talk about this week's comics!

Booster Gold #31

It was full of weeping and hugging and saving a little girl's dog, because even Rip Hunter makes exceptions to BEING A GIGANTIC JERK sometimes.

Also, I'm not sure why I found "No, I am most certainly not your father" so hilarious, but I did.

I am kind of sad that DC Comics cares about Booster now, though, because it means that he shows up in CROSSOVER EVENTS now, and that Rip Hunter is relevant to my interests, so I have to figure out what I'm doing about The Return of Bruce Wayne and Time Masters. My life, so hard.

Batgirl #9
I can't believe I took the time to look up the binary in this issue at Purple Hell. For the record:

The binary on the phone the woman picks up says "slave of calc" both times. The infected security guard says "TERMINATE OBSTACLE" when he attacks Gage. The bits both the security guard and the woman say when they terminate themselves is, unsurprisingly, "expire". Just in case you were wondering. It actually would have been kind of cool if they hadn't revealed the man controlling them was Calculator yet, so the binary would have been a nerdy clue, but that's just the part of me that plays too many ARGs talking.

Anyway, Steph continues to be adorable and made of lolz, and now there is a Batgirl Cave presumably called "Firewall"? FUCK YEAH.

However, needs more Cass.

Red Robin #11
Okay, this was last week's, but I picked it up this week, so whatever.

I'm reading this mostly because it started over on Batgirl and I want to find out what happens, and also because I kind of have been missing Tim. But I spent the whole time being like "No wait, go back to Tam and Vicki Vale!"

It's not bad, though.

Black Widow #1
I'M READING MARVEL. I KNOW, RIGHT? I am mostly reading it because I love Marjorie Liu's books in all their ridiculous glory. (Liu writes paranormal romances about a secret organization of people with superpowers, mostly psychics. Her plots are AWESOME by which I mean, she gets bored and throws in the Russian mafia, or suddenly people run away to the circus, or whatever. they are awesome, and I highly recommend most of the Dirk & Steele novels.)

Anyway! This wasn't too continuity heavy for someone who doesn't read much Marvel and doesn't know much of anything about Natasha. There is also a helpful backstory section in the back!

It was a pretty interesting first issue. I'll probably keep reading it. I also really like the art.

I am not going to cut for Adventure Comics #10 because I mostly want to say WHY AM I STILL READING LAST STAND OF NEW KRYPTON? FUCKING SERIOUSLY. I got tricked into reading this because Adventure, which I am only reading because Legion, and now there is very little Legion and I am sad.

On the plus side, Quislet is comprised primarily of lolz, and I am very glad that Adventure has been reminding me of this lately.

Brightest day #0
YOU GUYS I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS RIGHT NOW. Here are my main feelings:

1. Hank Hall, you are such a psycho, but I am very glad they have apparently decided to totally undo Armageddon 2001 for reals! Also, apparently in the future, Hank and Dawn will make out, which is so weird to me. Mainly because it reminds me that Hawk and Dove were chosen to have superpowers by awesome entities who were in love, which is great when Dove is Dawn Granger, but it really confuses me when I think about it from the beginning because DON HALL IS HIS BROTHER. (This is also how I feel about magical princess Dove in the Hawk & Dove series from the early 90s, although I love all magical prince Dons, and one day someone will draw it for me and I will be so happy.) I am really glad, also, that Don has nothing at all to do with this. I love him, and wish he could be written by other people who think he is awesome, but I am even happier that he couldn't be resurrected by the Black Lanterns in Blackest Night because he was at peace. ;________; I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT HAWK AND DOVE, OKAY.

2. Guy Gardner bringing J'onn Chocos: SO GREAT.

3. I am a little irritated that Jen telling Soranik that there's nothing between her and Kyle was mainly about Kyle's feelings, and not, you know, that they had both already TOTALLY MOVED ON before she died. On the plus side, there wasn't a catfight over Kyle, so I TAKE WHAT I CAN GET with Jade. Jade using an actual Green Lantern to charge up in the big splash page near the end: VERY INTRIGUING TO ME.

4. I still really dislike Max Lord being 100% straight up villainous as opposed to just kind of an amoral jerkface, more because of what it means about the JLI (and J'onn, who I feel SHOULD HAVE NOTICED if Max were evil and undermining the Justice League) than because I think Max shouldn't be evil, but WHATEVER I AM ROLLING WITH IT. ALSO RUN AWAY, JAIME OF THE FUTURE, RUN AWAAAAAY.

5. I will eventually get tired of the Dead Man is alive again gag, but I HAVEN'T YET.

Anyway! I AM TOTALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS.

Comics were not especially awesome, but nothing really sucked! Well, except Adventure. But I was expecting that.

edit: And in baseball news, APV would like all Indians fans to step back from the ledge, and just enjoy the view. I will eventually reach acceptance with the 2010 Cleveland Indians.

I read Black Widow 1 too and did not regret it. Lovin that art, as well as the throwback to Natasha's 60's style.
eisen: Jason (playing bad soldier). (good thing this is all just a game.)

I ... like how you are the one with the rapidly expanding pull list and I am the one with NO PULL LIST AT ALL now, as this is exactly the opposite of both our situations wrt comics as it stood last year! IDK, that just amuses me so much.

I am so glad the Legion backups remember that Quislet is made of win and wacky awesome.
eisen: Jinx (make it explode). (trip a wire and go.)

Quislet may be one of the greatest characters ever created, as far as I'm concerned. My fondness for Quislet is not enough to get me to read a comic just because Quislet is in it - especially not with how Lian's death pretty much broke me of my interest in ever reading a DC super-book again for a while - but I endorse Quislet showing up and making things lulzy by existing at them always.

I keep thinking I want a pull list, then remembering how much money my pull list would end up sucking out of my pocket every month and deciding I can live with buying back issues and trades when the desire strikes me ... for the moment.

I'M READING MARVEL. I KNOW, RIGHT?

I had a full-on supervillain cackle moment at this line, no lie. But it was a pretty great first issue! Thinking about Natasha on the operating table still gives me shivers, and I like that Bucky and Logan were there for her (...and Tony, I guess. :/).
