All right, I went ahead and bought Rift, and I've been playing around with it a little bit. I have no idea where anything is, and it's awful, and I've already died once because I suck. Anyway!
If you're thinking about playing: I'm playing Chance, an Eth Rogue (Saboteur/Nightblade/Riftstalker) on Kelpmere, and I'm like level 8, and basically I suck! It's pretty great! Saboteuring is pretty awesome, though. Basically, I trap things, set them up the bomb, then splode them! (I took Riftstalker basically for the kiting utility of the teleport, and am not really putting points into it, because it's a tank spec.) It's A+++. One day I will figure out where the fuck Meridian is so I can, like, put my mats on the AH/in the bank, and like, idk, train a crafting profession. Yeah! Also, one day I will buy my second role, and I'mma be a bard, yeah!
I also love how this game is like, on the one hand, the questing is linear as fuck. But on the other hand, you'll be like halfway through some quests and a rift will spawn and you'll be like AW SHIT YEAH and go kill the rift with some randoms. There were actually two zone-wide rifts since I've been playing, and I actually helped out a bit on one of them, and it was pretty fun!
edit For those of you who are into the Guardians: I also rolled a High Elf Justicar on Laethys, and I don't care if Justicar tanking sucks, I'm gonna try to Justicar tank because that class sounds really fun. (From what I hear, it's fairly viable in leveling/lowbie dungeons, just less so in endgame, largely because there is very little gear itemized for tanking clerics.)
